I am nothing if not a victim of capitalism, and of course, I have an ever-growing wishlist. Each autumn/winter season, my wishlist grows exponentially, with a particular focus on three specific items this year. When I am considering new items, I am conscious about focussing on the 'why' and I consider how it will add to my wardrobe to rebel against mindless consumerism. With this in mind, the items below have been thoughtfully chosen for maximum effect in your wardrobe whilst also providing a timelessness that will last season after season.
Main Character Wool Coat
A wool coat is always top of mind during the autumn/winter season, but I wanted one with a twist this year. The & Other Stories coat is perfect because the funnel neck is a function and fashion dream. Functionally, it removes the need for a scarf, and fashion-wise, it gives a more dramatic flair, which makes for a standout piece. The Cos one has a less out-there flair, but the shawl collar differentiates this from a typical pea coat and gives it a slightly more feminine touch.
The Skinny Belt
The skinny belt is essential to make a subtle but highly effective mark on your outfit. A thicker belt is appreciable when you need a more obvious breakup in an outfit. The thick buckle does the job if you want a focal point between the top and bottom of your look. However, a skinny belt is a more lowkey way of elevating an outfit without it taking over the conversation of your look. I love the visual effect of the opposing skinny belt and wide belt loop, and even though you might sacrifice a bit of function, you still get a lot of fashion. The Still Here New York belt is very 90s Gucci-reminiscent with its double buckle and the perfect piece to smarten up a pair of baggy jeans. The snake print Cos belt does the job of adding a fun pop of print to a monochromatic outfit without being too garish.
The Pointed-Toe Pump
My love for the pointed-toe pump came from its ability to make an outfit feel put together with minimal effort. The brief was a pair that was practical enough to wear daily but with the same effect as a heel. The Clara pump from Aeyde fits this brief, and I can attest to its comfort with me having walked 10k+ steps in these easily. It is a shoe that has equal parts style and function, and I couldn't recommend it enough. The Vagabond pair provides the same elevation, but with the wedge heel, I can imagine that they are ten times more comfortable. The pointed toe on both pairs is great with a flooded pant to cut through all the fabric or a sweatpant to provide good friction, and overall, a perfect autumn/winter staple.
The three pieces above are perfect contenders for the wishlist as they have longevity at the centre. They’re pieces you can wear again and again and the small details make all the difference. I hope you have a lovely week and speak soon!
