I’ve recently gained an influx of new subscribers (hi!), so I wanted to do a quick re-introduction to share more about myself, Moresque, and the purpose behind it.
Hi, I’m Morenike, and I’ve been obsessed with clothes for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been fascinated by how something as simple as white tights made me feel feminine when I wore them to church at age five, or how my mum and I chose capri shorts over jeans for a birthday party when I was ten. Clothing has the power to validate how we see ourselves inside and help build the confidence to express our true selves to the world.
Over time, I started noticing how fashion newsletters often focus on promoting endless consumption as the key to finding personal style. The idea that if you just buy this one item, everything will magically fall into place. But consumption is a side effect of discovering personal style, not the solution. I wanted to bring a more thoughtful approach to this conversation. Rather than blindly recommending clothes, I aim to break down my own affinity for certain pieces and offer you insights to make informed decisions. With Moresque, I hope to encourage introspection behind our style choices and help us avoid contributing mindlessly to the capitalist machine. My goal for the weekly newsletters is to provide clarity, guidance, and validation on how to approach getting dressed and building a wardrobe that speaks to you, for you.
Below are four posts that best capture the essence of my mission with Moresque, and I hope they give you a clearer understanding of my “why.”
042: The Art of Choosing the Right Coat – A guide to selecting a coat and understanding the features that make each option a dynamic choice for winter.
034: A Hammer, a Wrench and a Kitten Heel – I’m a kitten heel apologist, and here’s why they’re the perfect tool to elevate an outfit.
005: Giving Basics Their Main Character Moment – How to use your unique perspective to purchase elevated basic pieces for your wardrobe.
006: Creating Your Own Style Dictionary – How to define style words like “classic,” “edgy,” or “feminine” based on your personal style, and how these definitions shape your wardrobe.
I hope this helps you better understand why Moresque exists and what I aim to achieve with this space. I’m deeply grateful for each of you who subscribes, likes, and comments on my posts. I don’t take this community for granted, and I’m excited to continue evolving in this space!
Talk to you next week! :)
